It’s a sad day. Today the Deadeye Games team has decided to end the Rulers of the Sea project, and with that, the studio Deadeye Games. It has been a years-long effort to try and get enough funding for this ambitious project. We have always said we regarded it a fifty/fifty chance of success. For […]
Last week the investor campaign for Rulers of the Sea started. Nearly 650 potential investors were selected for this campaign. We selected these investors in various ways: Through community member and supporter suggestions. Through our own research and contacts of the past years. Through contacts of our business partner Argentics. The campaign is kicked off […]
Dear followers of Rulers of the Sea, Happy new year!!! 2022 was the year we ‘more or less’ left COVID behind us and would have hoped for at least an economic return to the years before the pandemic. It worked out differently. The Russian invasion of Ukraine marked the largest war in Europe since World […]
Today Deadeye Games signed a letter of intent with Argentics to help develop the pre-alpha proto-type if funding is in place. The Deadeye Games team is responsible for the concept development of Rulers of the Sea. This required experience in game design, history, project management, marketing, concept art, community management and business. The Deadeye Games […]
An important milestone in the game design was to finish the ‘port level design’, the layout and structure of a port in-game. On the basis of this concept design the 3D design of the port level and its assets can commence. This month we’re delivering on that milestone and we like to share it with […]
The Rulers of the Sea project is breaking new grounds as a historically based MMORPG that features a simulated 18th century world where world politics, government, economy, law, warfare and social interaction can be fully acted out, exploring the motives and circumstances of the past and writing a new version of history while doing this. […]
Last week we officially kicked off the project to start the game trailer and demo! We had already begun the production of game concept art as of July last year, creating historically accurate character art made by the talented Peter Johnston and Giorgia Vincenzi. We have shared this work with you on the art blog […]
Just celebrating the beautiful costumes for government characters made by Giorgia Vincenzi over the past half year already justifies this news post. But they are also interesting historical studies. In the game gamers can take the positions of government in a nation, and apart from politics and power, costumes, showing off your station, are just […]
It is worth noting the concept character costume art that Peter Johnston has produced for the project over the last six months. Rulers of the Sea is serious about historical accuracy, for that reason the team has researched the costumes of the mid 18th century across the different cultures in detail. That does not mean […]
Dear followers of Rulers of the Sea, Happy new year!!! 2021 was to be the year we hoped things around the world would turn up a bit after a difficult 2020. For some it might have done, but at the end of the year many of us faced problems that seemed eerily similar to 2021. […]
There have been many questions about the choice of game engine for the game. We never provided clarity on the choice because we had not made it yet. Why not? We were not in a stage of development where that choice had to be made. Possible investors (if they are publishers or partners) can have […]
This year we have started producing increasing amounts of game concept art. This is always nice to share, so far we shared it on our forum in the art blog and other places, and on social media. Additionally, since the start of the project we have made presentation material with the use of real historical […]

Rulers of the Sea project is a community project. This is apparent in the way we look for funding, the way we keep the community informed, our transparency, principles and the way we engage experts within our community to help with content creation. We aim to enrich much of the content of the game with […]
Dear followers of Rulers of the Sea, 2020 was the year of the launch of our community campaign to see whether the Rulers of Sea project has enough appeal to have a shot at success. With more than fifty thousand followers and enough financial support to continue promotion, we think it has! Despite the handicap […]
At last Christmas we wrote: “So imagine Rulers of the Sea launches in December 2022 (now that would be a great Christmas gift!), just in time for Christmas!” Theoretically that would have been possible but I don’t think even then we imagined that a very likely scenario, we hadn’t even begun the community campaign yet […]

In Rulers of the Sea you play with a family. You can play with each of the family characters, providing they are ‘unlocked’, and alternate in game-play between these family members that each can have different careers, adventures and stories. In the game we will have a Family Creator in which you can create the […]
Gamer Shares are Share Certificates (B-Shares) in Deadeye Games, the company that owns and develops Rulers of the Sea. They are an opportunity for community members and supporters to own part of the project. On March 1 2020 we featured a first issue of Share Certificates. As planned, we closed sales on May 29 2020 […]
One of the community focus projects of the development, the world map of Rulers of the Sea, has been published. The map reveals all the available nations, capitals cities, ports, monarchs, flags, and specific port data, something the fans have been waiting for. The intention of the map is to allow for community input so […]

Fifty thousand Dollars might be a small amount for the size of our project, it’s not exactly nothing either! Considering the early stage and the still relatively small community of Rulers of the Sea, we are very happy to have reached this level! We have succeeded in proving there is a willingness in the community […]
We are happy to announce that the ‘Gamer Shares’ programme of Rulers of the Sea is live. You can now buy share certificates in our project and become owner of a part of the game. It was a lot of work to get the legal and financial structures in place to enable us to offer […]
Dear Rulers of the Sea community member, In 2019 you heard for the first time about Rulers of the Sea. And the reason that you are reading this must be because you loved the design! You are very special to us because we share a dream. A dream of an MMORPG that doesn’t yet exist, […]
After more than two months of work for the artists the ‘teaser’ for Rulers of the Sea is finished. The teaser is a necessary element for a YouTube campaign, and can also be used on other media. Finishing this material takes us to a next phase of the campaign. This video is not yet a […]
So imagine Rulers of the Sea launches in December 2022 (now that would be a great Christmas gift!), just in time for Christmas! Would we celebrate Christmas in the game? Just imagine, in the week of Christmas pine trees with glowing candles and colourful trinkets replace the statues on the market squares of the ports, […]
Barristers, Commissioners and Lord Chief Justices are all positions in the law career. Each nation has its own law system, and those that are charged with upholding it have a huge responsibility.
Uninhabited ports offer a great opportunity for becoming Governor and managing a port, but colonization projects come at great expense and risk.
The Rulers of the Sea trailer is an ambitious project to create a first proper trailer for Rulers of the Sea. We aim for a professional trailer that expresses the quality we wish to invest in our project, but as we are in a pre-funding phase this is not a simple thing to achieve. The […]
Deadeye Games is the studio behind the Rulers of the Sea project. To make Rulers of the Sea a reality we need a lot of help, both from experts in the video game industry and from volunteers. We still need to expand the team with several experts that will form the core of the development […]
It’s odd news to publish on our website, but we thought it wise to give it some attention to prevent any misunderstandings. Yesterday we were surprised to read that there was someone arrested in a crypto currency fraud concerning a game platform called Komodore64. We were not aware of this project nor are we interested […]
Rulers of the Sea has more than 40 different occupation types, ranging from the lawless to law and order, from business to art and politics. Complete this test and find out what occupations would suit you best!
In Rulers of the Sea there are as many opportunities for careers as there are opportunities for a social life. Meeting other gamers, hanging out with friends, exchanging news, it is all important. In the Hospitality Career this all comes together.
Instruments of death, such as swords, bayonets, pistols, muskets and cannons, turn men and ships into instruments of destruction. But however sinister the arms business is, the craftsmen that manufacture them are one of the most prized artisans of any nation.
Rulers of the Sea reached 10.000 supporters! Dear fans and supporters of Rulers of the Sea, Two months ago we started our official campaign for our new historical video game (MMORPG) project! Thanks to all of you we’ve reached the number of ten thousand supporters today! Our supporters are divided across Facebook, YouTube, LinkedIn […]
Today, the first Grand Duke has joined the Rulers of the Sea community! Grand Duke is the highest noble title available in the game. In fact it is the closest title to a King or Queen! This title holds great privileges. A palatial mansion, a powerful influence in the House of Lords, the ability to […]
Service as a Governor earns a gamer the Governor’s mansion, an attractive salary, political influence, and as the months of service increase, promotions in noble rank. But most importantly Governors are representatives of ports, they are influential community leaders and possibly the future leaders of a nation.
Companies such as the British East India Company (EIC), the Hudson Bay Company (HBC), the Dutch Vereenigde Oostindische Compagnie (VOC), the French Compagnie française pour le commerce des Indes orientales (CFIO) and the Danish Vestindisk Kompagni (VIK) represent the trade empires of western Europe. These National Trade Companies are powerful international organizations under loose control of their shareholder nations and care about little else than profit.
Rulers of the Sea reached its first 1000 supporters! Dear fans and supporters of Rulers of the Sea, A month ago we started our official campaign for our new historical video game (MMORPG) project! Thanks to all of you we’ve reached the number of a thousand supporters this week! Our supporters are divided across Facebook, […]
Sea Charts are very important as they allow for faster and less dangerous navigation in a region. As making good charts takes considerable time and investment, most gamers will be looking to purchase them for the seas in which they sail. Creating and trading these charts can earn a good living and create a great opportunity for a life of exploration.
With the family and friends campaign behind us, we are busy looking for ways to build a community. To get funding for our project, first we need to prove there is a good community of gamers out there that wants to see this project become a reality. Part of our effort is directed towards contacting […]
Tailor and Jewellery shops in Rulers of the Sea are run by gamers that can create unique designs and custom collections for other gamers to wear. These artisans can travel around the world to collect local design patterns from other cultures and build their own style and reputation by applying choices of fabrics and materials. Rulers of the Sea allows for an almost infinite choice of outfits and the emergence of local fashions, run solely by gamers.
Every ship in Rulers of the Sea is unique. This is achieved by a large number of ship designs, a large number of ship design options, a changing state of maintenance and a custom name and ship log that registers its history. No ship will be like another. Every ship has its own characteristics and history. Only one ship like it will exist and can change owner on the ship market.
Shipping can be done in several ways. Traders can move goods from one port to the next for their own profit. Shipping companies are in the business of moving goods for other businesses at a fee and the cargo they move is insured. A strong shipping business is essential to a port and the local government and the Navy will do their best to protect it.
The Commissioners of the Secret Service are the dark horses of the game. They play their games of deception in the shadows and will attempt to subvert others to their cause. The Secret Service has unique powers to defend their nation and provide information to its leaders, but it is not hard to see how these powers could also be used for political purposes.
After months of hard working we are ready to start the community campaign for Rulers of the Sea! The design of Rulers of the Sea already started in 2016 and was only ready at the end of 2018 for starting the build of a team and a campaign. We, Deadeye Games, have been working hard […]
The gamer-run Justice System is a part of the realistic role-play of Rulers of the Sea, but it is also a community self-regulation tool. Governments of all 150+ nations set their own standards of justice and behaviour, and if gamers don’t like it they can always re-locate to a different nation where things are better. When the Justice System of a nation derails into corruption and depravity the Monarch can always step in and force a change.
The business manager career is available to characters with the right qualifications and can be fulfilled as Director or Director-General of a Joint Stock Company. The job market for this career type is entirely created by gamers themselves and is open to both commoners and nobility, giving everyone the opportunity to run a big company.
Monarchs provide a way to immersively moderate the game in a realistic way without ever breaking the historical role-play. They are also a source for special rewards for gamers. But mostly, as heads of state they are the banner every citizen of a nation gathers beneath.
Only gamers with a career or property in the capital can move their family to live there, but as both the gamers of the nation and gamers of foreign nations will have regular business at capital cities, capitals will be the busiest and most exciting places of a nation.
Every port in Rulers of the Sea will have its own culture and occupants, making it infinitely interesting to explore them, do business in them, and maybe even making them your home and help to develop them.
