Last week the investor campaign for Rulers of the Sea started.
Nearly 650 potential investors were selected for this campaign. We selected these investors in various ways:
- Through community member and supporter suggestions.
- Through our own research and contacts of the past years.
- Through contacts of our business partner Argentics.
The campaign is kicked off with a mini-pitch. A short 4-page summary of the project, focussed on only showing the most important highlights. The theory behind this is that investors usually recieve hundreds of pitches per year. Showing them extensive and complicated pitches (which they only browse for first impressions) makes them lose interest before they get the opportunity to get a ‘feel’ for the project. With a mini-pitch you only show them what they need to see for this ‘feel’. The only objective is then to make them say: “Hey guys, looks interesting, show me some more”. As of this moment we are in communication, which is the goal.
This time the proposition is different than in the past. Firstly, we now have a capable development partner, Argentics, removing the doubts that come with a team that has not delivered a game before. Secondly, we have a concrete design for a (playable) proto-type, which needs a first tranche of investment. After this delivery we then have a road to further investment from a different level of investors. It is a more solid and grounded plan than we had previously. Thirdly, we now have many more and more suitable investors we approached thanks to the experiences of the past years.
We have always stated that this investment push is also a final push. This project has been running for a long time on a lot of volunteer hours. It is now time to either turn it into a paid project for the participants or accept that the time is not right, at this moment, to carry this project to investment. This is why this is a vital step for the project.
We will keep you informed of the progress of this very important campaign! Wish us luck!
